The nursery is set out in a large house there are 5 well equipped play rooms, a sleeping/rest room and kitchen, and two safe enclosed garden areas.
We have outside caterers called Early Years Catering who prepare fresh well balanced and healthy meals for your child. They provide a two course hot lunch, a variety of mid morning snacks and a light early evening tea. We place a lot of emphasis on a healthy balanced diet and can adapt meals to suit individual dietary needs.
The nursery staff are dedicated to offering your child a warm and caring environment, with stimulating and fun activities. At Stepping Stones your child will always be seen as an individual.
We hope you will find us to be genuinely interested in putting children before profit. We have tried to offer flexible hours and competitive fees, while continuing to maintain an excellent standard of service.
We have an open door policy, which means at any time you can come into the nursery no appointment is necessary. We feel it's very important for parents to feel part of the whole process and look forward to hearing your ideas and comments.
Managing Stepping Stones Day Nursery is both enjoyable and rewarding. I have been with the company for 7 years and have been in the child care profession for 11. Being part of a child's first years, encouraging and helping them to develop is very rewarding. Our nursery team gives each and every child the very best start in life. I am very proud to be a part of this.Mandy Punter, Manager - Over 10 years working for Little Acorns/Stepping Stones.
The First Floor
We recognise that children within this age range will be at different stages so, our baby room is specially designed to promote the physical development of our youngest children to help them to sit, crawl and achieve their first few steps.
Our room is well equipped with age specific activity toys and they are stored at a child appropriate level, to allow children to choose and explore for themselves.
We aim to offer your child the attention they need at this young age. This is achieved by allowing them to explore and develop at their own speed but always being available to them for support and comfort.
There is a separate sleep room, with cots and a baby monitor for your child to continue the routine you have set at home.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for all ages, so activities are planned according to this and also to the children's individual ability.
Toddler Room: Ages 18-22 months
In the toddler room children are encourage to develop and learn as individuals. Your child will be offered different activities to help with every stage of their development, puzzles, colouring, finger and brush painting and lots of hand on interactive activities. We like to allow young children the room to express and develop, we will be helping them to learn, share, socialise and communicate, in many different ways.
Pre-school Room: Ages 3 - 5 years
The pre-school is set out in a well-equipped playroom, with an extension, which we call the Arch Room. We use the Arch Room as a role-play and dressing up area, along with space for our interactive ICT screen. This is also used as a area we can split into smaller groups to play games or take part in circle time.
In the Main Room there is daily access to sand, water and painting as these are seen as an integral part to children's learning and development at nursery. We have other areas area for group activities and socialising, a book corner, and a learning zone, with equipment for, maths, science, writing and literacy.
The pre-school room opens out to a decked area which is perfect for extending our creative activities onto, this then leads onto our main garden. This enables our staff to offer the pre-school children a mixture of free play and adult lead activities which are carefully planned to stimulate and interest your child and help their on-going development.
The Garden & Allotment
We have two enclosed safe garden areas, one of which is located to the front of the nursery and this is mainly used by our babies and toddling children. This space allows them to explore the wider environment around them.
To the back of the nursery there is a larger garden, which is perfect for running games and other energetic activities. We have a nature and growing area, this is where our children are able to plant seeds, learning about growing and help to nurture their own vegetables, which they often later use for cooking activities.
We also have a garage which is accessed from the garden, this is used as an outdoor all weather classroom.
Our curriculum is based upon the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) listed below.
While your child is with us we shall aim to continue developing the areas listed below:
Personal, Social & Emotional Development
Communication & Language
Understanding of the World
Expressive arts and design
Partnership with parents
We place a lot of emphasis on self-evaluation, training and re-investment. Feed back from parents/carers is always sought and valued and acted on.
We believe that partnerships with parents is of the utmost importance as, after all, who knows your children better!
Whilst at nursery, your child will be allocated a Keyworker and a buddy through our Key person and buddy system. If for any reason your child's Keyworker is not in, then the buddy will take over the care and well being of your child.
Your child's key person will be responsible for the day to day care of your child ensuring routines are regularly reviewed and updated and for keeping records of your child's achievements and ongoing development.
They will provide you with progress reports on a regular basis, and of course meet with you to discuss your child at a time to suit you.
If your child is under three, they will be provided with a daily diary. This will include all information about your child's day and any comments from their key person. These book are sent home with you at the end of your child's session and have a large space for you to write any information or comments you feel may be useful.
If your child is over 3 years of age, verbal feedback will be given about their day at the end of each session.
More detailed information can be obtained regarding EYFS from the staff.
