Stepping Stones Lockleaze is a purpose built nursery attached to Stoke Park Schools. The nursery opened in September 2016. Our nursery cares for children aged between 3 months and 5 years, within 3 large open plan playrooms all on one level each with their own designated outdoor learning area. We also have a large enclosed grassed nature garden and a large space designed for physical and adventure play and ride on toys, these environments can be accessed by all ages.
The nursery manager and team are dedicated to offering your child a warm and caring environment, with a range of stimulating and fun activities to help your child develop as a confident individual.
We hope you will find us to be genuinely interested in putting children before profit. We have tried to offer flexible hours and competitive fees, while continuing to maintain an excellent standard of service.
We have an open door policy, which means at any time you can come into the nursery no appointment is necessary. We feel it's very important for parents to feel part of the whole process and look forward to hearing your ideas and comments.
We have outside caterers called Early Years Catering who prepare fresh well balanced and healthy meals for your child. They provide a two course hot lunch, a variety of mid morning snacks and a light early evening tea. We place a lot of emphasis on a healthy balanced diet and can adapt meals to suit individual dietary needs.
I see my job as privilege to shape our children to become confident, self aware & independent little people. I love the relationships we build with the children, parents and their families. Every day is very different and an exciting challenge.Nicola, Manager

The First Floor
Baby Room 1: 3 months to 2 years
Our baby room is a specifically designed play space for babies aged 3 months to 2 years. The room is a bright, airy and welcoming space for the babies to explore their environment at their own pace and introduce the start of independent play and learning. The room is well laid out to allow for all stages of development from babies first roll to their first steps. Our babies have access to their own undercover garden area to allow them all weather outside play and messy activities each day.
Adjacent to the baby playroom we have a cosy quiet sleep room, this allows for our babies to continue with their home routine and seep and rest at any time during the day. The sleep room is checked by staff every 10 minutes and times recorded on a sleep chart.
Toddler Room: Ages 2 - 3 years
The toddler playroom is another open plan room with all the learning zones set up for the children to freely access. Children are encouraged to make their own free play choices and to join in with some adult lead activities, either inside or outside in their own undercover classroom. Toddlers are offered many different learning opportunities from physical, role play, small world, construction, creative and messy play. Whilst taking part in these games and activities they are being helped to further their independence skills and help them make a smooth the transition to pre-school life.
Changing facilities and a small toilet block are accessible to the rear of the playroom to ensure ratios are not compromised when the toddlers are toilet or potty training.
Pre-school Room: Ages 3 - 5 years
This large open plan playroom has an emphasis on free-flow learning, frequently taking advantage of the large covered outdoor classroom and surrounding garden facilities. The children have a well equipped playroom with separate areas designed for, language and literacy, mathematics, knowledge and understanding of the world, imaginative play, craft and messy play and much more.
In addition to our pre-school children having free flow they are also offered adult lead activities which are carefully planned to stimulate and interest your child and help on-going development. We incorporate the early learning goals which are: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication, Language and Literacy; Problem solving, Reasoning and Numeracy; Knowledge and Understanding of the World; Physical Development and Creative Development.
Again at the rear of the playroom they have their own toilet facilities which we allow independent use of, however staff are on hand to help if required.
In addition to the 3 outdoor classrooms attached to the playrooms, the children have all year access to a large grassed nature garden and a large physical play ground. Ideal for adventure play and place to perfect their gross motor skills and use ride on toys and equipment. We provide opportunities for the children to be involved in growing, nurturing and taking care of plants, fruits, vegetables and herbs, taking ownership for their own allotment space.
Our curriculum is based upon the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) listed below.
While your child is with us we shall aim to continue developing the areas listed below:
Personal, Social & Emotional Development
Communication & Language
Understanding of the World
Expressive arts and design
Partnership with parents
We place a lot of emphasis on self-evaluation, training and re-investment. Feed back from parents/carers is always sought and valued and acted on.
We believe that partnerships with parents is of the utmost importance as, after all, who knows your children better!
Whilst at nursery, your child will be allocated a Keyworker and a buddy through our Key person and buddy system. If for any reason your child's Keyworker is not in, then the buddy will take over the care and well being of your child.
Your child's key person will be responsible for the day to day care of your child ensuring routines are regularly reviewed and updated and for keeping records of your child's achievements and ongoing development.
They will provide you with progress reports on a regular basis, and of course meet with you to discuss your child at a time to suit you.
If your child is under three, they will be provided with a daily diary. This will include all information about your child's day and any comments from their key person. These book are sent home with you at the end of your child's session and have a large space for you to write any information or comments you feel may be useful.
If your child is over 3 years of age, verbal feedback will be given about their day at the end of each session.
More detailed information can be obtained regarding EYFS from the staff.
A deposit of £ 50.00 is required to secure a place.
