Importance of Male Practitioners

Within our settings we have a number of male practitioners and can recognise the importance of male role models for the children. Upon talking to our setting support officer we realised that there is not much support for males working in a predominantly female workforce and that it would be beneficial to start up a male network evening, inviting male practitioners along from other settings as well to share their experiences within the Early Year’s sector.

“It was great to meet other male practitioners from different companies and settings, from apprentices to qualified practitioners who have been in the childcare sector for a number of years” - Ross

“We looked at ways we could really develop areas which appeal to both genders with regards to reading” - Ross

“We learnt some new, original ideas that promotes so much development and imagination from young people” - Josh

Brislington - Funded walk

On Sunday 15th May 2016, 3 year old Benjamin Collins, took part in Bristols Great British Family mile along with his dad Alex. Benjamin's participation in the race was to raise money as well as awareness for 'Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal', the primary charity supporting Bristol Children's hospital.

In May 2015, Benjamin's twin brother Edward, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and is currently undergoing a gruelling 18 month chemotherapy treatment plan. Benjamin accompanies Edward on his weekly visits to Bristol Children's hospital and both boys make great use of the wonderful facilities funded by the Grand Appeal. There are extensive play facilities, play therapists, music therapists, books and DVDs to help make hospital visits and longer stays more bearable and even enjoyable at times.

Benjamin managed to raise an amazing £3000 for Wallace & Gromits Grand Appeal, which will help continue funding of the play facilities as well as new accommodation for the families of sick children admitted to the hospital.

Many families from Little Acorns and Stepping Stones Brislington generously donated to Benjamin's cause and for that, the Collins family are eternally grateful.
