Little Acorns day nursery offers child care for children aged 0-5 years. Here at Little Acorns we are dedicated to providing the highest standards of day care, whilst still maintaining a caring homely, atmosphere, where your child will feel happy, safe and secure.
Our nursery caters for children aged 0-3 and our pre-school for children aged 3-5 years. They are located in 2 converted old school buildings of local historical value. There are 4 large well equipped play rooms in the nursery, 2 baby rooms, one of which is geared towards caring for our younger less active babies, with a sleep room adjacent to the room. The other is ready for our more adventurous older babies. Your children will then move on to one of our toddler rooms located on the ground floor, both these rooms have bathroom facilities to help with toilet training.
Our pre-school is in our second building adjacent to our nursery, this caters for children aged between 3-5years. We can offer full day care or purely Nursery Education Grant sessions in this building.
We have recently developed our gardens and given the children lots of different areas to challenge their thinking and imagination.
We have outside caterers called Early Years Catering who prepare fresh well balanced and healthy meals for your child. They provide a two course hot lunch, a variety of mid morning snacks and a light early evening tea. We place a lot of emphasis on a healthy balanced diet and can adapt meals to suit individual dietary needs.
I have worked with children for over 9 years and love having the opportunity to watch children grow and develop. Inspiring children to engage with their peers, environment and the adults who surround them is what makes me so passionate about children. I love working as part of the Little Acorns team as it's a nursery where the children are at the centre of all that we do and where everyone works for the best of each individual.Clare Sprat, Manager
Our Baby Unit is spread over 2 floors, the upstairs room is set in a purpose built loft style room. One wall has floor to ceiling windows offering the children the opportunity to watch he hustle and bustle of the street below and giving the room a light airy feel. We like to keep this group small with around a maximum of 15 babies. This room has a designated sleep room attached to allow your babies a calm and restful nap at any time during their session, and enables staff to closely monitor your babies whilst they are sleeping.
Our second baby room is located on the ground floor directly below the first baby room. It has a bright and airy feel, and set up to encourage your babies to further their development and explore the world around them. In this room we can also have a maximum of 15 babies.
The room is large enough for the children to take part in many physical activities and we have provided an area specifically for malleable and messy play to encourage exploration and investigation. Again in this room the key workers will work with parents and carers to maintain their child's already established daily routine. A separate bathroom and changing area is located directly off the room, this allows for potty training and nappy changes to take place without compromising any child to adult ratios.
Meal times are an important social time for babies. We have a variety of different sized tables and chairs to meet the needs of all ages as well as low high chairs, which allows the children the opportunity to all sit together.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for all ages, to ensure activities are planned according to this and also to the children's individual needs and abilities.
This room is for use by outside groups such as child minders, mother and baby groups , twins club etc, the room is well equipped for the groups to stay and play, with use of own toilet & small kitchenette facilities, there is opportunity to use the garden subject to liaison with the nursery manager. The groups can not access the normal nursery play areas and are separated by code lockable doors for security.
We have a fully equipped soft play space directly opposite the pre-school rooms, this room can be used by any of the children attending the nursery, or children from our other nurseries pop over on the mini bus to use this space, in addition our community groups are welcome to book a time slot for use at no cost.
The Ground Floor

The rooms are equipped to help the development of children as they get ready to transition through to the pre- school.
Both rooms have a large role play area to help develop those early imaginative skills. There are cosy corners with cushions, cuddly toys and child size sofas with a variety of books to look at. We have a large variety of construction sets enabling the children to build and design. In the creative areas there are large painting easels and table top activities always available, where children can draw, paint, stick, collage, junk model, this can be with a variety of medium such as play-dough or clay. In the building opposite the main entrance is the pre-school building, which is set out in a large, well equipped playroom. There is a separate art, craft and messy room just off the main play room, this room also gives the opportunity for mark making and writing to promote early language and literacy skills. Sand, water and many other messy creative activities are available every day. There is book corner, cosy quiet area and ICT room set just off the main room, this is also available for the children daily. Our nursery garden has undergone extensive landscaping. There is a large sand/ball pit to the rear of the garden that doubles as a stage area when the lids are closed. The out buildings have been converted into a large play house with decking off it and the other into storage for toys. The decking has a sail over it to provide a shaded area for the younger children. There are three trees that provide climbing opportunities for the children on a small hill with ladder to one side. We have 2 growing areas. The children have planted vegetables in one and flowers in the other. There is a separate digging area for the children to use spades etc. An undercover area provides an all-weather space for the children to access creative activities such as drawing, painting and sticking. A new safe water feature has been built. It provides children with the opportunity to splash in the "puddle stream" or explore the 3 small water spheres and pour water down the gutter trail.
Our pre-school children also have their own garden to themselves. They have a large, safe enclosed flat area perfect for all the ride on toys, where they can safely scoot, run and join in circle games. They also have a nature garden with a willow tunnel, talking tubes, sandpits, and small world stages and meeting areas. There is plenty of space for exploration of the outside world and the opportunity to care for our environment by planting and growing.
Our curriculum is based upon the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) listed below.
While your child is with us we shall aim to continue developing the areas listed below:
Personal, Social & Emotional Development
Communication & Language
Understanding of the World
Expressive arts and design
Partnership with parents
We place a lot of emphasis on self-evaluation, training and re-investment. Feed back from parents/carers is always sought and valued and acted on.
We believe that partnerships with parents is of the utmost importance as, after all, who knows your children better!
Whilst at nursery, your child will be allocated a Keyworker and a buddy through our Key person and buddy system. If for any reason your child's Keyworker is not in, then the buddy will take over the care and well being of your child.
Your child's key person will be responsible for the day to day care of your child ensuring routines are regularly reviewed and updated and for keeping records of your child's achievements and ongoing development.
They will provide you with progress reports on a regular basis, and of course meet with you to discuss your child at a time to suit you.
If your child is under three, they will be provided with a daily diary. This will include all information about your child's day and any comments from their key person. These book are sent home with you at the end of your child's session and have a large space for you to write any information or comments you feel may be useful.
If your child is over 3 years of age, verbal feedback will be given about their day at the end of each session.
More detailed information can be obtained regarding EYFS from the staff.
